‘I saw this thing on Pinterest I love! Can I send it to you for inspo?’

Nope! If you loved another artist’s work, you should reach out to them to work with! Your images won’t look like that anyway. They will be based off you. Your family. Your home. Your life. And my art! Instead of copying other people’s art, let’s create something together that everybody else wants to pin.

‘My daughter’s birthday/aunt’s colonoscopy/cousins boob job is the week after our shoot! I know your turnaround time is 3 weeks, but I would love just one picture for said occasion!’

All the images go through 3 different edits - the initial culling, a general edit, and the final edit. They go through them at the same time for consistency and if I were to send one out before the final edit, it wouldn’t be complete. Even a sneak peak on instagram can get another edit before it’s in its final home - your hands! I wouldn’t send out unfinished work and breaking up the process adds a lot more editing time than it would seem. The best thing to do is get on my schedule 3 weeks before you need any images.

‘I love your work but my budget is $xxx, can you do a smaller session instead or work with my budget?’

I appreciate some deal hunting. However, like most jobs in every other industry, my price isn’t negotiable. It’s demand-based and skill-based.

‘We really want one of us smiling for our Christmas card!’

This isn’t a bad thing but it should absolutely not be what you hire me for because it isn’t my forte. Scroll through my blog posts. Scroll through my Instagram. Do you connect with that and want to make that together? Then let’s make it baby! Do you want a picture of your family posing in a formal portrait together? There are some incredible photographers out there who would make all your dreams come true better than I would! Do you want a picture of your family connecting and enjoying each other with your personalities and joy shining through? That’s what I do! You can also send that as a Christmas card these days. It’s cool now.

‘Weekday mornings are hard for us, do you ever shoot on Saturdays or in the evenings?’

Nope! This has no exceptions. My family is my priority and I adore you all for honoring that. I realize it isn’t for everyone and if we aren’t a great fit because of it then no biggie. What is nice is that it typically isn’t a big deal - a sunrise shoot starts around 7:30am most times of the year and is done by 8:30am and everybody can be off to school and work from there! Maybe even on time:) If it’s an in-home shoot then 9:30am is the lighting sweet spot.
